I agree completely. I would like to help this effort but I cannot discover how to do that except sign the petition. Would it help to write my (U.S) standards committee? Write U.S. regulatory agencies?
In the past, I have been involved in political action (and political is what Microsoft has made this). To get ordinary people to get involved you:
1. state clearly and succinctly the issue and why they should support your view of it (this is present of this website but buried behind one of many many links)
2. tell people what to say in bullet points (and give two or three sample letters as guides)
3. tell people who to contact and the address
4. a date by when the letter needs to get there
Maybe this is not a citizen's effort. But, if not, why this website?
I fully support what you are doing, but the website seems to be one by and for hardcore computer people. You need to get some public relations people on board. (If this is the website to convince the computer people and they already know who to contact, that is great. Then tell me where the website for regular people is.)
Very sorry to be critical, but I want you succeed.
